PRESS RELEASE

Residential Recycling Drop-Off Locations – May 1, 2008 - The Borough of Mt. Pleasant and Allied Waste Services of Scottdale have teamed up to offer the residents of Mt. Pleasant Six (6) Residential Recycling Drop-Off Locations throughout the community starting on May 1, 2008.  Four (4) of the six (6) locations have been determined to be at (1) North Church St adjacent to the N&N Store, (2) Borough Shed along Kennedy Ave & North Depot St, (3) Willows Park, and (4) Municipal Building parking lot.  The other two container locations will be announced at a later date.  The locations will have an Allied Waste Services metal container clearly labeled for recycling materials.

Acceptable Recycling Materials include Paper (Newsprint, Copy Paper, Envelopes, Colored Paper, Magazines, Shredded Paper, and Mail Inserts), Cardboard, Plastics Containers (Nos. 1 through 5), and Metal Containers (Aluminum and Tin Cans).  Remember all containers must be empty and free of food waste and original contents and all cardboard boxes needs to be broken down so they are flat.  Unacceptable Materials include Styrofoam, Food Wrappers, Cereal Boxes, Food Waste, Plastic Toys, Metal or Plastic Coat Hangers, No. 6 Plastic, and No. 7 Plastic.  To assure a successful recycling program it is up to you not to contaminate the recycling material with any Unacceptable Materials.

Benefits of this program will lead to a reduction of waste that is disposed of in landfills and may reduce the costs of waste collection depending on participation & may ultimately lead to curb-side recycling in the Borough.

Due to the limited number of containers & collection days per month these services are limited to Residential use only.  If you are a commercial establishment that currently doesn’t recycle, Allied Waste Services provides 2, 4, 6 & 8-yard frontload commercial recycling containers to meet your needs.  The Borough & Allied Waste respectfully request that commercial establishments refrain from using the residential recycling drop off locations for their businesses because any abuse of this program may result in the cancellation of the program.  Please contact Allied Waste at 724-887-9400 for a waste analysis, site survey & commercial recycling pricing as outlined in the Borough Contract with Allied Waste.
